A New Chapter for The Governance Group
A new look. A new book. A continued commitment to helping Boards govern well.
The Governance Group is evolving, and we’re excited to show you what that looks like.
This isn’t simply a rebrand, it’s a reflection of how governance and the organizations we work with are changing.
Boards are navigating a more complex environment, where the decisions they make can have a lasting impact on their organizations. Organizations need to think differently about governance. That’s where we come in.
We’ve always been focused on helping Boards govern well. This next chapter builds on that commitment while looking ahead to what they will need in the years to come.
A new look, grounded in what we know works
Our new identity brings a more approachable and energetic look to The Governance Group, one that better represents the community- and membership-based organizations we serve.
Lighter, brighter colours give the brand a contemporary feel, while the logo symbolizes our Six Elements of Governing Framework: Guidance, Standards, Oversight, Protect, Stakeholder and Sustainability. These elements reflect the collective and interconnected nature of good governance and provide the foundation for our approach.
So while our visual identity may be different, the thinking behind our work remains firmly grounded in what we know effective governance requires.
But the new look is only part of the story.
Introducing Governing for Success
Governing for Success: A Practical Guide to Effective Non-Profit Governance is the first in a new series of handbooks from The Governance Group, designed to help Boards navigate the fundamentals – and future – of good governance.
Governance can be complex. The resources Boards use to understand and apply it shouldn’t be. Governing for Success focuses on the foundations of effective governance, exploring practical models and processes that can help organizations establish good governance practices and develop the discipline to consistently apply and maintain them. The final section includes a range of tools and templates that organizations can adapt and use in their own governance work.
Rather than creating one large, all-encompassing governance book, we’re developing a series of focused handbooks giving Boards a useful set of resources to support effective governance at every stage.
Today’s launch is just the beginning, with three more handbooks planned:
- Leading the Board — leadership mindset, behaviour and culture;
Setting Direction — direction, planning, execution and adaptation; and - The Evolving Board — assessment, accountability and continuous improvement.
We’re aiming to have the full series available by the end of winter 2027.
Governance for What’s Next
The handbook series reflects an idea that has long been central to our thinking: good governance can’t stand still. Strong governance needs solid foundations; however, Boards also need to look ahead to strategy, risk, relationships, sustainability, growth and the changing needs of the organizations they serve.
Governance is serious business, but it doesn’t have to be dry or overly complicated. Clear language, practical tools and straightforward processes can make good governance more accessible and useful.
Our new identity and handbook series reflect that approach. They’re part of a new chapter for The Governance Group, building on what works, exploring what could work better and keeping an eye on what Boards will need in the years ahead.
